This family was referred to me by one of my absolutely favorite past clients who I consider a friend. Before this session began, I already knew it would be awesome because of their connection with the W family. Their kids are friends, and parents too.
A and I had a great time coming up for ideas to use in the shoot. She was constantly getting inspired, emailing me with so many brilliant ideas. Once again, it was more like a collaborative effort which if you read my blog, you know that I LOVE. I found out that their older child is a ballerina in every sense of the word. No tap, jazz, etc. She loves ballet. So of course we had to incorporate that. And the younger child is a big fan of music and jumping around. So we decided to incorporate that as well.
I was lucky enough to pick up a miniature piano the day of their photo session at the Metrolina market in Charlotte (if you’ve never been and are into old stuff, you MUST check it out!). So that added a little something special to their shoot. Which was actually already pretty special considering how beautiful this family is!
The most special element of the session was the love. I know I said it before. But I’ll say it again. I am SO honored to be a part of this family’s life. To have them trust me enough to let down their guard in front of my camera and not worry about the perfect smiles, the hair in place, the dirt on knees. Sometimes we go through all this work to set up this amazing set where the color is gorgeous, the props are perfect, the lighting is magical, and then it’s the little things that happen, a big sister wrapping up her kid brother in a blanket as we play a game, a father having a true moment as he comforts his son when he forgets that my camera is even there. This is the stuff that I live for, that makes me gasp when I sit at my computer going through pictures. I simply plant little tiny seeds using suggestions. It is up to each family to take those seeds and grow them. And THAT is the stuff that makes beautiful portraits.
Thank you B family!!! XOOX
